Meet Sayidana

Sayidana Brannan-Douglas is a documentary director and producer based in Yonkers, New York. Her production company, SBD Media, focuses on telling meaningful stories that spark empathy, understanding, and change. She started SBD Media while in college and now continues to pursue after graduating. Currently through her service called Behind the Brand, she and her team help brands elevate their video marketing with their own short documentary-style videos.

For the last 5 years, Sayidana has highlighted Black owned businesses during Black History Month. In 2019 and 2020, she started by creating video spotlights on other Black student entrepreneurs at her university who also started a business while in college.

Then in 2021, she created the first "Ownership" short documentary, and then turned it into a series with "Ownership: Free Money" in 2022 and "Ownership: Keys For Success" in 2023.

ABOUT THE Ownership series

The Ownership short documentary series helps empower entrepreneurs by sharing stories from the next generation of Black-owned businesses in New York.


Every year a new episode drops during Black History Month, and each episode focuses on a different topic.


The series started in in 2021 with the first "Ownership" short documentary, which was about the ways it actually makes a difference to buy from Black-owned businesses and the 3 main things they need to grow economically.


In 2022, came Episode 2 called "Ownership: Free Money" about how more Black-owned businesses can access grant funding.


This year, in Episode 3 called "Ownership: Keys to Success", business owners will share the biggest lessons they have learned in their entrepreneurship journey thus far.
